If a person is prohibited in Canada
because he/she may have criminal, security, or medical reasons, but needs to
enter Canada, they are eligible under the Temporary Permit Canada (TRP). Please
take note that this blog is about The Temporary
Permit Canada (TRP) not about The Temporary Resident Visas (TRV)
usually referred as Canadian Visitor Visa.
TRP allows someone to overcome their
inadmissibility. In TRP the applicant is required to prove their reason on why
they must move in Canada. When someone is criminally prohibited for Canada,
he/she is also prohibited for working, studying, visiting purposes, and is also
not allowed for submitting an application for Canada’s permanent residence by SSSS Immigration.
TRP helps a prohibited person to enter in Canada, but only through temporary
grounds. In simple words a Temporary Permit can only be used for entering
Canada as a foreign student, worker or as a visitor. TRP is necessary until the
criminal status has been removed, through applying for the criminal
rehabilitation process or deemed rehabilitation.
Take note that the individuals who
are eligible in criminal rehabilitation should not apply for TRP, they should
apply for Criminal Rehabilitation as well, because Criminal Rehabilitation is
the permanent solution for criminal inadmissibility, while a TRP is a temporary
solution.
The Canadian Government allows
individuals to apply for TRP at any Canadian Visa Offices or any port of
entries.
